Policies & Safety

How We Structure Your Time

At Firm & Flourish, your session time belongs to you — not to the schedule.

When you book a 60-minute session, you receive a full 60 minutes of hands-on treatment. When you book 90 minutes, you get 90 minutes. When you book 2 hours, you get 2 hours. I don't subtract time for intake paperwork, getting on the table, or "transition." Your hands-on time is exactly what's listed.

I also build 30–35 minutes of buffer between every appointment. This is non-negotiable. It means:

  • You're never walking in while the previous client is walking out

  • I have time to reset the room with full attention, not rushing

  • Your session starts when you're settled and ready — not when the clock says so

  • There's no pressure to get dressed and leave quickly afterward

  • I'm fully present for your treatment because I'm not mentally managing the next appointment

This is a deliberate choice. Many practices book clients back to back with little or no transition time because it maximizes revenue per hour. I do the opposite because I believe the quality of your session depends on the quality of the space — and a rushed practitioner cannot deliver unhurried work.

Your nervous system knows the difference. So does your lymphatic system.

Medical Safety & Contraindications

I take your safety seriously. Please review the following information before booking.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage — When NOT to Book

MLD is a gentle, non-invasive technique, but it is not appropriate for everyone. Please do NOT book a lymphatic drainage session if you have any of the following conditions without first consulting your physician and discussing it with me:

  • Congestive heart failure — MLD increases fluid return to the heart, which can be dangerous

  • Acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) — risk of dislodging a clot

  • Active, untreated infection — MLD can spread infection through the lymphatic system

  • Uncontrolled hypertension — consult your physician first

  • Advanced kidney disease — the body may not be able to process the increased fluid load

  • Active cancer without physician clearance — if you are in treatment, I need written clearance from your oncologist before we begin

  • Acute illness — if you are currently experiencing cold, flu, fever, or COVID symptoms, please reschedule

If you are unsure whether MLD is appropriate for your situation, please email morgan@firmandflourish.com or call (201) 416-9820 before booking. I am always happy to discuss your specific needs.

Post-Surgical Clients

If you are booking a post-surgical lymphatic drainage session:

  • You must have physician clearance to receive MLD. Please bring your surgeon's post-op instructions or clearance note to your first session.

  • Sessions can typically begin 24–72 hours after surgery, depending on the procedure and your surgeon's guidance.

  • Inform me of your specific procedure, date of surgery, and any complications when you book.

  • I will work within your surgical team's protocols — I do not override your surgeon's instructions.

Oncology Clients

If you have a current or past cancer diagnosis:

  • You must have written clearance from your oncologist before booking.

  • Please contact me before your first booking so we can discuss your treatment history, any lymph nodes that have been removed or radiated, and your current medications.

  • Oncology lymphatic drainage is a specialized modality — I hold advanced training in oncology massage and will adapt every session to your unique needs.

  • Book the "Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Oncology" service specifically — do not book a general MLD session.

Pregnant Clients

  • If you are pregnant, please book either Prenatal Massage or Prenatal Lymphatic Drainage — these sessions are specifically adapted for pregnancy.

  • Do not book a general MLD or customized massage session during pregnancy.

  • Prenatal massage is available after the first trimester.

  • If you are within one year postpartum, please book the Postpartum Massage service.

All Clients

Please inform me of any of the following before or at the start of your session:

  • Medications you are currently taking (especially blood thinners, immunosuppressants, or hormone therapies)

  • Any recent surgeries, injuries, or medical procedures

  • Chronic health conditions (autoimmune disorders, diabetes, cardiovascular conditions)

  • Allergies (particularly to essential oils, lotions, or latex/nitrile)

  • Areas of acute pain, inflammation, or open wounds

  • Whether you are or may be pregnant

I ask these questions not to be intrusive, but because they directly affect how I treat you. Your safety comes first, always.

Booking & Scheduling Policies

Booking: Appointments can be made online at firmandflourish.com/book-online or by calling/texting (201) 416-9820. Online booking requires a minimum of 48 hours advance notice. For appointments sooner than that, call or text directly.

First Visits: New clients should complete the online intake form before their first appointment. You can find it under the "For Clients" menu on the website. If you have questions about which service is right for you, contact me before booking — I'm happy to help.

Arrival: Please arrive on time. If you arrive late, your session will still end at the scheduled time to avoid impacting the next client. The full session fee applies.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

I understand that life happens. I also hold your appointment time exclusively for you — when you cancel late, that time cannot be offered to another client who may be waiting.

  • 24+ hours notice: Cancel or reschedule with no fee.

  • Less than 24 hours notice: A 50% cancellation fee applies.

  • No-show (no communication): The full session fee applies.

Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in a request for prepayment for future sessions.

Exceptions are always made for genuine emergencies — I'm a reasonable person. If something comes up, just communicate with me and we'll figure it out.

Payment

Firm & Flourish is a private-pay practice. I do not bill insurance directly.

Accepted payment methods: Cash, credit/debit cards, and most major payment apps.

FSA/HSA: Massage therapy may qualify for FSA or HSA reimbursement depending on your individual plan, particularly when prescribed by a physician for a specific condition. I can provide receipts with appropriate documentation for submission to your plan. Please confirm eligibility with your plan administrator before your appointment.

Deposits: Some services require a deposit at the time of booking. The deposit is applied to your session total and is subject to the cancellation policy above.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Your personal health information is kept strictly confidential. I do not share your intake form, session notes, or any medical information with anyone without your explicit written consent.

If your physician or surgical team requests information about your treatment, I will only share it with your authorization.

Before/after photos are only taken with your explicit verbal and written consent, and are never shared publicly without your permission.

Your Comfort & Boundaries

Firm & Flourish is a safe, shame-free, judgment-free space. Bodies come in all sizes, shapes, and conditions. You do not need to shave, apologize, explain, or perform. Your only job during a session is to receive.

You have the right to:

  • Adjust your comfort level at any time (temperature, pressure, positioning, draping)

  • Decline any technique or area of work without explanation

  • Ask questions at any point during the session

  • End the session early if you need to — for any reason

Communication is welcome and encouraged. If something doesn't feel right, tell me. If something feels great, you can tell me that too. My goal is to provide the best possible treatment within your comfort.
