Therapeutic Facial Massage in Morris County NJ
Therapeutic facial bodywork. Not a spa facial.
If you are searching for facial massage in Morris County NJ, you have probably found a hundred listings that sell it as a five-minute add-on to a topical skincare service. That is not what I do. At Firm and Flourish, facial massage is the main event: structural, lymphatic, and intramuscular bodywork performed on the face, jaw, neck, and scalp by a therapist trained specifically in this work.
I am Morgan Larson, LMT, CMLDT. Licensed massage therapist. Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapist. 12+ years of clinical experience and 1,000+ hours of advanced training. Facial work is one of my specialties, and it is treated with the same depth, intention, and time I bring to anywhere else on the body.
What Therapeutic Facial Massage Actually Is
Most people hear "facial" and picture a skincare service: cleanser, exfoliant, mask, maybe a few minutes of light effleurage at the end. That is a facial. It is a skincare treatment performed by an esthetician, and it can be lovely.
Therapeutic facial massage is something different. It is bodywork. It is structural and lymphatic work performed on muscles, fascia, and lymphatic pathways by a licensed massage therapist with specific training in the face. It addresses the things skincare cannot:
-
Chronically held tension in the jaw, masseter, and pterygoid muscles
-
Lymphatic stagnation that causes morning puffiness and under-eye congestion
-
Restricted fascia that pulls the face downward over time
-
Sinus pressure, sinus headaches, and seasonal congestion
-
Tension headaches and migraines that originate in the jaw and neck
-
The cumulative facial tension of clenching, grinding, and screen-time posture
-
Visible swelling and fluid retention from hormones, surgery, or chronic inflammation
Done well, with real training, therapeutic facial massage produces visible, lasting change. I wrote a longer piece on what facial massage actually is and why a spa add-on doesn't count.
The Four Facial Massage Sessions I Offer
Most clients come in through a single search like "facial massage near me" or "buccal massage Morris County" and discover, once we talk, that what they actually need is more specific than a generic facial. The four sessions below cover the most common reasons people come to me. If you are not sure which fits, book a free 15-minute consultation call and I will help you choose.
60-Minute Facial Lymphatic Drainage Massage $185
The gentlest of the four. Slow, light, rhythmic Vodder-method strokes that move stagnant lymphatic fluid out of the face, sinuses, and neck. Best for puffiness, sinus congestion, post-procedure recovery, hormonal water retention, dental swelling, and anyone whose face feels heavy or swollen by the end of the day.
60-Minute Buccal Massage $200
The deepest facial work I offer. Buccal massage releases the muscles of the face from the inside of the mouth as well as the outside, reaching layers no external technique can touch. Best for clients with TMJ symptoms, jaw tension, clenching and grinding, tension headaches, and anyone interested in natural facial sculpting without injectables.
90-Minute Lymphatic Drainage with Facial Massage $235
A full-body lymphatic drainage session followed by focused facial massage work. The body session opens the major drainage pathways so the facial work can move more fluid more efficiently. Head to toe, inside and out.
120-Minute Lymphatic Drainage with Buccal Massage $395
The most complete session in my practice. Two hours of integrated lymphatic and buccal work. For clients who want depth, time, and the full experience of what trained facial bodywork can do.

-
Morning puffiness, under-eye bags, and persistent facial swelling
-
Sinus pressure, sinus headaches, and seasonal congestion

If something on this list fits, the work is likely a good fit for you.
I am not a day spa. I do not run multiple rooms or rush sessions. Firm and Flourish is a private practice in a quiet cedar house in Kinnelon, surrounded by old-growth forest in the NJ Highlands. When you are here, you are the only client.
My facial work draws from three trainings most providers in Morris County do not have together:
-
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (Vodder method) through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies. The Vodder technique is the clinical gold standard for lymphatic work and is the same protocol used in hospital lymphedema programs worldwide. I am a Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapist (CMLDT).
-
Buccal massage training with Joanna Tringali, a New York City practitioner with 30+ years of clinical experience and a decade as a Commissioner at COMTA, the body that sets curriculum standards for massage therapy education in the United States.
-
12+ years of full-body massage practice with chronically ill, post-surgical, prenatal, postpartum, hypermobile, and high-stress populations.
This combination matters because the face is not a separate system. Facial puffiness reflects whole-body lymphatic health. Jaw tension is held in place by neck and shoulder patterns. The reason your face looks tired is rarely just your face. Therapeutic facial bodywork treats the whole picture.
How My Approach Is Different
What to Expect at Your Session
When you arrive, you walk into a private home studio with its own client entrance. There is no shared spa lobby, no waiting room, no overlapping appointments, and no rush. I keep the practice deliberately small. I see no more than five clients in a day, and fewer when I am doing two-hour sessions. That cap is what lets me give every session the attention this work actually requires.
I greet you with San Pellegrino, Topo Chico, electrolyte drinks, or whatever feels right for the day. We talk through what is going on for you, what you have tried, and what you want to feel different. Then I tailor the session to what your face and body actually need that day.
For lymphatic work, expect light, slow, intentional pressure. The Vodder technique is gentle by design. The results are not. For buccal work, I use gloves, and the inside-mouth portion of the session is shorter than people expect. Most of the work happens externally.
You will leave feeling lighter, looser, and visibly less puffy. Many clients see a noticeable difference in the mirror immediately, especially after lymphatic and buccal sessions. Results compound with regularity, which is why I built the Flourish and Bloom memberships around consistent care.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is therapeutic facial massage the same as a spa facial?
No. A spa facial is a skincare service performed by an esthetician focused on cleansing, exfoliating, and treating the skin. Therapeutic facial massage is bodywork performed by a licensed massage therapist focused on the muscles, fascia, and lymphatic structures of the face, jaw, and neck. They are different services with different goals, and they are often complementary.
Does buccal massage hurt?
It should not. Buccal work can feel intense in places where you are holding chronic tension, especially in the masseter and pterygoid muscles. But intense and painful are different. I work in collaboration with your nervous system, not against it. If something is too much, we adjust.
How often should I come in for facial massage?
It depends on what you are working with. For chronic jaw tension, TMJ, or persistent puffiness, most clients see the most progress with weekly or biweekly sessions for the first six to eight weeks, then maintenance every three to four weeks. For event preparation or seasonal swelling, a single session can produce visible results.
Can therapeutic facial massage help with headaches?
Yes, often significantly. Tension headaches and many migraines are driven by patterns in the masseter, temporalis, suboccipitals, and neck muscles. Releasing those patterns with focused bodywork addresses the underlying cause, not just the symptom.
Will I see results after a single session?
Most clients see visible reduction in puffiness and softening of facial tension after a single session. Lasting structural change, like a looser jaw, fewer headaches, or more even facial symmetry, comes with regular work over time.
Is this safe during pregnancy or postpartum?
Lymphatic facial work is safe and often deeply welcome during pregnancy. Buccal massage is contraindicated during pregnancy, but it is one of the most popular sessions for clients in the postpartum and perimenopausal stages. If you are pregnant, I will route you to the lymphatic facial session or to prenatal massage.
